A variety introduced to the market in 1944 by the University of Nebraska, which is still worth growing today. All thanks to the fruit’s unique flavor, firmness, texture, and fleshiness. Don’t be fooled—this is no ordinary tomato, even though it looks like one! The fruits aren’t very large, weighing no more than 250–300 grams. They are shaped like slightly flattened spheres. The fruit reaches maturity about 70 days after being transplanted in the ground.
Sioux was developed by crossing Stokesdale and Allred. The breeding program was conducted at the Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station with the goal of creating a versatile tomato that would perform well both in the garden and when harvested for the fresh market.
