A German-origin beefsteak tomato variety. Carolyn Male described it in the “Off the Vine” newsletter as a variety brought from the German Black Forest by the Bratka family. Large fruits, weighing up to 700 grams, with thin skin. The fruits are tricolor—red, yellow, and orange—slightly flattened at the top, with ruffled sides. A mid-late variety; the fruits reach maturity about 85 days after planting.
This is one of the tomato varieties whose history has been preserved thanks to the personal connections of collectors. It’s worth pairing it with “Mammoth German Gold” to compare two large fruits with intermingling warm hues.
