Cherokee Green is one of our recommendations for lovers of green tomatoes: aromatic, very tasty, and great for both slicing and pureeing. The fruits weigh up to about 300 g. They remain green on the inside and take on an amber-yellow hue on the outside as they ripen.
In 1997, Craig LeHoullier found a green-fruited plant among the offspring of Cherokee Chocolate. Darrell Merrill had sent the seeds back to Craig, who had previously given him Cherokee Chocolate. This garden surprise became the stable, open-pollinated variety Cherokee Green.
The plants are tall, sturdy, and bear fruit abundantly. It is a late-season variety: here, the fruit ripens about 85 days after transplanting.
