A variety that combines orange flesh with purple discoloration on the skin. It shares with the 'Indigo Rose' the effect of dark pigmentation on the sun-exposed part of the fruit, but here the background is a warm orange color. The small fruits sometimes weigh over 200 grams, though on average they weigh about 120 grams. A unique feature of the ‘Orange Fleshed Purple Smudge’ variety is the fruit’s coloration: the entire fruit is an intense orange-gold, with distinct streaks of very dark (purple-black) skin. The more sun the fruit receives during ripening, the more intense the dark stripes will be. If the fruit grows in the shade, then instead of intense black streaks, you’ll get a more delicate, smoky coloration. In other words, if you want the distinctive features of this variety to be perfectly visible—plant it in full sun! The flavor is excellent, with a predominance of delicate sweetness. It’s perfect for salads, and thanks to its interesting appearance, it’s also great for decorating tables or dishes. A mid-late variety; the fruit reaches maturity about 80 days after transplanting.
