The fruit is uniformly colored in a glossy pinkish-red hue. When cut open, the fruit reveals the full beauty of this variety: very fleshy pulp covered with a beautiful mosaic of colors. The flavor matches its appearance—it’s full-bodied and refreshing—perfect for a sandwich or salad. This is a late-season variety; the fruit ripens about 85 days after transplanting.
The name “Rostova” refers to Rostov, Russia. The American history of this variety is linked to seeds from Russian immigrant Nikolai Peplenov, who grew it in Portland, Oregon. It became widespread there in the early 21st century.
