Candy Stripe is one of the multicolored tomato varieties with the largest fruits. The average fruit weight is about 500 grams, although fruits developing from fused flowers can reach up to a kilogram! The round, slightly flattened fruits shimmer with colors ranging from a dominant yellow-orange through pink to red. Their beautiful appearance is complemented by a sensational flavor, comparable to the Brandywine variety. The fruits are very fleshy and closely resemble “beefsteak” types. This variety is similar to, but more productive than, “Pineapple.” The fruits ripen about 85 days after transplanting.
Keith Mueller obtained seeds for this line from fruits he bought in 1994 at a market in North Carolina and later shared them with other gardeners. That’s how the flavor of this market tomato found its way into other collections.
