An American beefsteak tomato with bicolored fruit. Depending on how they are trained, these tall plants produce large fruits weighing 0.5–0.9 kg. The fruits are very fleshy, beefbeefsteak-type, very tasty and aromatic, with a sweet, wine-like flavor. The skin is thin, orange with reddish streaks. The fruits are almost seedless. This is a tall-growing variety that requires staking.
The name can be misleading: in British catalogs, it was also used for “Tigerella Heirloom.” Our “Mr Stripey” is a large beefsteak tomato with intermingling colors, not the smaller, distinctly striped “Tigerella.” The Victory Seed Company attributes its popularity to Wayne Hilton and seeds found in Georgia.
