A plant with regular-type leaves; under certain conditions, it ripens very early, though it typically bears fruit around day 85. High yield per plant; one of the most productive varieties among large-fruited tomatoes. The tomatoes are well-shaped, weighing up to half a kilogram each; in the early stages of ripening, they have distinct green shoulders, which disappear completely as ripening progresses. When cut open, the fruit is very meaty, with uniformly pink flesh and a small core. Customers highly value its sweet, distinctly tomato-like flavor. Due to its tall stature and high yield, the plant requires staking or training on a support.
Yasha Crnkovic, originally from the former Yugoslavia, brought this variety to the United States. He was a colleague of Carolyn Male, a well-known tomato collector. His name has been retained for the variety, preserving the memory of the person who brought the seeds to other gardens.
