Brandywine Yellow is a large tomato with golden-yellow fruits that are often orange when fully ripe. Its fleshy interior, delicate skin, and few seeds make it ideal for cutting into thick slices. The fruits weigh 400–700 g—enough to serve as the main ingredient in a summer meal.
One of the well-documented milestones in its history occurred in 1991, when Barbara Lund of Ohio gave seeds to Craig LeHoullier. From there, the seeds made their way into various collections and seed catalogs. This is a yellow variety with its own story, one worth exploring through the taste and appearance of its fruit.
The tall potato-leaf plant requires sturdy support. Give it a warm spot and time for its later harvest. For a comparison of two large, light-colored slicing tomatoes, try it alongside Amana Orange.
