The "Basinga" tomato variety is a unique, rare, tall-growing tomato prized for its large, creamy-yellow fruits. The fruits typically weigh between 400 and 700 g, but can reach up to 800 g. These tomatoes have a delicate, thin skin and fleshy pulp with few seeds, making them ideal for salads and sandwiches. The flavor of these tomatoes is mild and sweet with a slight hint of spiciness, making them an excellent choice for connoisseurs of heirloom varieties.

The ‘Basinga’ variety also stands out for its exceptional yield when grown in open ground and under cover. These tomatoes have a delicate yellow color with a slight pink tint at the tips, especially as they ripen. The plant has sparse foliage, so during hot weather, it’s important to protect exposed fruit from sunscald and avoid removing leaves that provide shade.

Basinga is described in Carolyn J. Male’s book *100 Heirloom Tomatoes for the American Garden*.
