Armenian features a yellow-orange background with a red blush that may also extend into the interior of the fruit. The large tomatoes, weighing about 400–800 g, are meaty and have relatively few seeds. Their mild, sweet flavor is best enjoyed fresh, cut into thick slices or in a simple salad.
In seed collections, the variety is described as originating from Armenia. TomatoFest identifies Charlotte Mullens of West Virginia as the person from whom the seed material originated in 1990. This traces the journey of the seeds among gardeners, through which local tomatoes find their way into international collections.
The plant grows tall and requires staking. The large fruits thrive in warmth, sun, and consistent watering. If you want to compare two fleshy tomatoes with warm, blending colors, plant “German Gold” next to it as well.
