Yield Index

The yield index defines the proportion of marketable yield in the biomass produced by a plant. For tomatoes, it is typically calculated as the ratio of the dry weight of the fruit to the total dry above-ground biomass or another clearly specified biomass pool. It shows what portion of the produced matter went into the fruit, but does not take into account the fruit’s taste, quality, or market value. In amateur gardening, this parameter is rarely used.
