Tooth Decay

Also known as: humus

Humus is the most valuable component of soil organic matter. It improves soil structure, increases its ability to retain water and nutrients, and provides a habitat for a vast number of beneficial microorganisms. Soils rich in humus are much easier to cultivate and better withstand periodic droughts. Humus levels should be gradually restored by applying mature compost, mulching, and protecting the soil from erosion and excessive compaction.
