Stem

The stem connects the fruit to the cluster and is responsible for transporting water and nutrients to the developing tomato. In some varieties, it detaches easily from the fruit during harvest, while in others it remains attached to it permanently. Its structure is one of the characteristics that distinguish varieties from one another.
