Seedling Blight

Seedling blight is a group of diseases affecting young plants caused by various fungi and fungus-like organisms, including those of the genera Pythium, Rhizoctonia, and Fusarium. Nasiona may rot before emergence, and in young seedlings, the base of the stem darkens and constricts, causing the plant to topple over and die. The disease is favored by excessively wet, cool, and poorly aerated growing media, as well as high plant density. Prevention relies on clean containers, fresh, well-draining growing media, moderate watering, and good growing conditions.
