Peaking

Topping involves removing the growing tip of a shoot. When performed on a young shoot, it can stimulate branching and is used mainly in specific training methods or in cultivation. Removing the tip of the main shoot at the end of the season—usually called topping—is intended to halt further growth and promote the ripening of existing fruit. Both procedures involve the same action but differ in timing and purpose.
