Nitrogen deficiency

Nitrogen deficiency is characterized by light green or yellowing foliage, starting with the oldest leaves. Plants grow more slowly, produce smaller leaves, and bear smaller fruit. The deficiency should be corrected gradually, as fertilizing too aggressively can cause excessive growth of the foliage at the expense of fruit production.
