Italian glandular
Also known as: glandular trichomes
The trichomes covering the stems and leaves of the tomato plant secrete aromatic substances and compounds that may deter some pests. These substances are responsible for the characteristic scent of tomato leaves that can be detected when touched. They also serve as the first line of defense against certain insects.
