Crop succession
Also known as: crop rotationcrop rotation system
Crop succession involves the planned sequence of different plant species in the same location. It limits the development of certain soil-borne diseases, reduces the population of some pests, and helps maintain soil fertility. For tomatoes, a 3–4-year break is a general guideline, but its duration and the selection of follow-up crops should be tailored to the specific risk. During this time, tomatoes should not be replaced with other susceptible nightshade plants.
