Biochar

Biochar, also known as biochar, is a material produced during the anaerobic heating of biomass. When added to soil, it improves its structure, increases its water-holding capacity, and can reduce the leaching of nutrients. It also provides a good environment for the growth of beneficial microorganisms. It is not a fertilizer in and of itself, but it can enhance the effectiveness of fertilization. It is increasingly used in both amateur and professional gardening.
