Wapsipinicon Peach surprises with a delicate fuzz on its skin. These small, light yellow or creamy yellow fruits, about 4–5 cm in diameter, resemble small peaches more than typical tomatoes. Their sweet, mild flavor makes them perfect for eating fresh and adding whole to colorful salads.
Dennis Schlicht named the variety in honor of the Wapsipinicon River in the U.S. state of Iowa. The history of this variety is closely tied to Iowa. Seeds preserved by gardeners have allowed this unusual, delicately fuzzy fruit form to survive.
The plant grows tall, has regular leaves, and requires staking. Collector’s guides indicate a maturation period of approximately 80–85 days from planting the seedlings to harvest. A light color is a characteristic of a ripe tomato, so when harvesting, it’s also worth paying attention to whether the fruit has softened.
