A wonderful pear-shaped grape tomato. The fruits are not very large, distinctly elongated, and feature unique colors: a very dark indigo hue, with distinct dark streaks of that color through which shades of red and orange shine through. The flavor is bold and well-balanced. The only downside is the yield per plant; unfortunately, it isn’t very high, with the number of fruits per cluster rarely exceeding ten. Perhaps this is the botanical embodiment of the saying: “quality over quantity”? A tall plant with regular leaves; it requires staking. The fruit ripens in about 75 days.
Blue Keyes was developed by Dean Slater of Michigan. His work on tomatoes included various varieties from the Keyes group; this one stands out for its pear-shaped fruit and dark skin color.
