Kaleidoscopic Jewel changes in appearance as it ripens: the small, oval fruits transition from green to red, retaining dark purple spots and streaks. This is a tomato best admired up close, as individual fruits may vary in their skin pattern. Inside, the flesh has a pleasant, fruity flavor.
The variety is attributed to Brad Gates of Wild Boar Farms, known for creating tomatoes with unusual colors. The dark coloration is due to anthocyanins, and its intensity depends, among other things, on the amount of light the fruit receives. The dark color alone is not yet a sign that it’s time to harvest—it’s also worth observing the red part of the skin and how soft the fruit is becoming.
The plant grows tall and requires staking. The fruits are suitable for eating fresh and in colorful salads. When paired with the creamy-purple Amethyst Cream, it shows just how diverse tomatoes with dark pigmentation can look.
