Faelan’s First Snow is a tomato that catches the eye even before it bears fruit: its leaves and stems are covered with white and green streaks. In our garden, these markings persisted throughout the season, more prominently than in Cherokee Purple Variegate, where we observed them primarily on young plants.
The variety is described as a variegated selection related to “Cherokee Purple,” further preserved and selected by Blane Horton. The fruits retain a dark, purplish character: they have darker shoulders, thin skin, and a full, sweet flavor with a slight smoky note.
In our garden, they ripen about 75 days after transplanting, and the plant grows up to 2 m tall and requires staking. This variety is ideal for those who want to observe the tomato up close throughout the season—from the light patterns on the leaves to the cross-section of a ripe fruit.
