42 Day Tomato

One of the earliest varieties in our collection. The name refers to the possibility of harvesting the first ripe fruit as early as about 42 days after planting in its permanent location; the actual timing depends on the weather and the condition of the seedlings. The fruit is spherical, red, and small—slightly larger than typical cherry tomatoes. The plant is small and determinate; the leaves die back relatively early. It is suitable for both ground cultivation and container growing. In our observations, the harvest was concentrated in a short, approximately two-week period, and the leaves ceased growing early. It is believed to be of Mexican origin.
