Deutsche Fleiss is a tomato for those who like to regularly come back from the garden with a handful of fresh fruit. Small, round, and deep red, these tomatoes ripen in clusters. They’re juicy, with a distinct, slightly tart flavor—perfect for everyday salads, sandwiches, and snacking on while working in the garden.
The name means “German diligence.” It suits this variety, prized for its bountiful yield, which collector Gerhard Bohl shared with participants in the Seed Ambassadors Project. Thanks to such seed exchanges, it has found its way into gardens beyond Germany.
The plant grows tall and needs support. You can expect the first harvest approximately 70 days after transplanting the seedlings. If you’re looking for similarly handy, red fruits but with an elongated shape, compare it to “Cherry Roma.”
