1884 Purple allows you to compare a similar type of fruit in a much darker variety. This variety is similar to the original in many ways: the same fruit shape, similar yield, and identical flavor. The most noticeable difference lies in the fruit’s significantly darker color. We highly recommend it to all gardeners. A tall, medium-late variety.
The name was given by Tatiana Kouchnareva after growing seeds received from Jeff Casey in 2006 as “1884.” Both observed the dark fruit; the addition of “Purple” formalized this distinction.
