Otherwise known as Black Prince. The variety, which originated in Irkutsk, Russia, is considered a true Siberian tomato and stands up well to colder climate zones. Until recently, the variety was relatively poorly known, but now its popularity has grown so much that Volograd, a company producing Black Prince juice - Black Oil - has been established in Russia. The fruits of the Black Prince variety contain significant amounts of lycopene. This substance belongs to the group of carotenoids and can be found in all tomatoes, although in varying amounts. Studies have shown that the consumption of tomatoes has a protective effect against gastrointestinal cancers and reduces the risk of cancer-related death in the elderly by 50%. Tomatoes and other lycopene-containing products should be especially recommended for men who are at risk of prostate cancer or are already battling the disease. The small fruits, which reach 60 to 80 grams, are dark in color and surprising in terms of color intensity inside. They are sweet and very aromatic with a slightly fruity note.
