Brandywine True Black produces very large fruits, weighing up to half a kilogram, with a deep, intense pink color and a delicate skin. We value it for its full flavor, characteristic of good Brandywine varieties.
Baker Creek received this variety from William Woys Weaver. According to a family account he shared, it was part of his grandfather’s collection as early as the 1920s.
The fruit reaches maturity about 90 days after transplanting. This is a tall, late-season variety that requires staking or trellising; it’s best to plant it in a warm location and allow ample time for ripening.
