Once popular, now extremely rare, this tomato ranges in color from dark brown to black. It has a uniquely rich, smoky flavor that’s wonderfully sweet with a hint of spice. It’s absolutely delicious. The beefsteak-type fruits are large and flattened, weighing 300–400 g. Very productive and easy to grow. All black tomatoes have a unique, fantastic flavor and aroma. They are among the best tomatoes.
Marina Danilenko donated the seeds of this Russian variety to the Seed Savers Exchange. The Exchange first recorded it in 1996, thanks to which its dark fruits and distinctive flavor became known to a much wider circle of gardeners.
