Humph found its way into wider collections thanks to Nancy Kirch of Binghamton, New York. She found it at a local nursery, where an employee had been preserving this variety as a family heirloom. In 2006, she made the seeds available through the Seed Savers Exchange. The beefsteak-type, fleshy fruits are a deep green color that turns slightly yellow as the fruit ripens. Regardless of the stage of ripeness, the flesh remains green. The fruit reaches maturity about 80 days after transplanting. The plant grows tall and requires staking or tying up.
