A variety native to Ukraine. The plants are very bushy, with regular leaves. The fruits are very large, weighing up to one kilogram, though reports indicate they can be significantly larger. They are spherical, deep red, and have a skin resistant to damage. The flavor is intense. An excellent choice for harsher climatic conditions, it also has higher disease resistance. The fruit reaches maturity about 78 days after transplanting. The plant grows tall and requires staking or tying up.
TomatoFest notes that it received the “Gigantesque” seeds from Lisa von Saunder of Amishland, who in turn received them from a Russian friend named Sergey. This is a documented chain of transmission for the seeds of this Ukrainian variety, through which it entered the international collection.
