An orange variety that we particularly value for its high yield and flavor. This robust, tall-growing plant produces very large quantities of fruit throughout the season. The fruit is a deep orange color, free of defects and damage, with thick fruit walls—very fleshy and virtually seedless. It is ideal for commercial sale, as it is sturdy and relatively resistant to transport. The fruits weigh between 270 and 330 grams and are fairly uniform in size within the cluster and on the plant. Their beautiful appearance is complemented by a balanced, fruity flavor. The fruits reach maturity approximately 77 days after being planted in the ground.
Valencia is preserved as an heirloom variety from the U.S. state of Maine. This variety demonstrates that orange tomatoes also have a place in the tradition of gardens with shorter growing seasons.
