A family variety associated with the Czech Republic. “Marianna's Peace” is a late-season variety that ripens about 85 days after planting. It has a lower yield than similar varieties, but it more than makes up for this shortcoming with its excellent flavor—fruity, intense, and very similar to that of the “Brandywine” variety. In our opinion, its sweet, creamy flesh resembles that of the “Sandul Moldovan” variety.
Gary Ibsen named it in honor of Marianne Worschech Tibbetts. Her sister, who lived in Munich, sent him the seeds. The family reported that the tomato was already being grown in the early 20th century; its exact breeding history is unknown. Preserving the seeds has helped preserve the flavor of the family garden.
