This unusual tomato is characterized by perfectly round fruits 3–5 cm in diameter. It is distinguished by its delicate skin, which ranges from a deep dark red to a caramel color and is adorned with vertical dark green and mahogany streaks. Black Zebra has an exceptionally rich, slightly sweet flavor. All black tomatoes have a unique, fantastic taste and aroma. They are among the best tomatoes. A late-season variety—the fruits ripen about 80 days after transplanting.
Jeff Dawson from California is behind the Black Zebra. The variety was selected following a natural cross involving Green Zebra. It retained its characteristic stripes, but the ripe fruits took on a darker, reddish-brown color.
