Sandul Moldovan is a large pink tomato with slightly flattened, fleshy fruits. In our description, they weigh 300–700 g. Their sweet flavor and juicy interior make them well-suited for salads, sandwiches, and serving in slices with olive oil.
This variety has a history rooted in a family’s journey. According to the Sand Hill Preservation Center, the Sandul family brought seeds from Moldova when they moved to the Albany, New York, area in the early 1990s. They continued to grow this tomato—a part of their past life—in their subsequent gardens.
The plants grow tall and require sturdy support. The leaves may appear delicate and slightly drooping—a growth habit also noted by collectors of this variety. The heaviest clusters should be tied up for additional support. If you’re looking for large pink tomatoes to compare flavors with, “Polish Giant” makes a good companion.
