Polarization of Growth

Also known as: growth polarity

Growth polarization refers to the establishment of an ordered axis of plant development, such as the apical-basal axis that determines the position of tissues and organs. It should not be confused with tropisms, which are directional growth responses to stimuli. Root growth in the direction of gravity is positive gravitropism, whereas shoots exhibit negative gravitropism and can grow toward light due to phototropism.
