Lignification
Also known as: lignificationlignification of tissues
Lignification is the process by which stem tissues become woody through the deposition of lignin in cell walls. As a result, the shoots become stiffer and more resistant to mechanical damage. It is a natural stage in the development of the older parts of the plant.
