Growth Cone
Also known as: peak height
The growth cone is a small area of meristematic tissue located at the tip of a shoot or root. The shoot growth cone produces new above-ground parts, including leaves, stem segments, and inflorescences, while the root growth cone produces tissues that enable root growth. Damage to the main shoot apical meristem inhibits its elongation and usually stimulates the development of lateral shoots.
