Germination Test

A germination test is a simple test used to assess a seed’s ability to produce healthy seedlings. It involves sowing or placing a specific number of seeds (usually 10, 20, 50, or 100) under appropriate temperature and humidity conditions, and then counting how many of them germinated successfully. The result is expressed as a percentage of germination rate. A germination test is particularly useful for older seeds and before sowing valuable collector’s varieties. It allows you to adjust the seeding rate accordingly or decide to replace the seed.
