Decapitation

Also known as: toppingremoval of the growing tip

Topping involves removing the growing tip of the main shoot. This procedure is usually performed at the end of the season so that the plant directs most of its assimilates to the ripening fruit rather than forming new clusters. The timing of topping depends on the length of the growing season and the planned harvest date.
