Cork scar

A corky scar is thickened, rough tissue that most commonly appears around the fruit’s stem. In many older varieties, this is a natural genetic trait and does not affect the tomato’s flavor or edible quality. It can also develop as a result of adverse conditions during flower development, sudden temperature changes, or other environmental stresses. It is purely a cosmetic defect and does not indicate that the fruit is diseased.
