Apical Rot

Apical rot occurs much less frequently than dry apical rot of fruit. It can result from infection by pathogens, mechanical damage, or prolonged exposure to high humidity. Damage to the apical meristem leads to stunted growth of the main shoot and stimulates the growth of lateral shoots. The rotting tissue should be removed with a clean tool, airflow should be improved, and the plant should be monitored to see if a healthy lateral shoot can take over further growth.
