Cuore Antico di Acqui Terme is an Italian heart-shaped tomato associated with Acqui Terme in Piedmont. The name means “old heart of Acqui Terme” and preserves the memory of the variety’s place of origin.
The plant is tall, with regular-type leaves and a limp stem, so it requires sturdy support. It bears fruit mid-season. The large, deep-red fruits are heart-shaped, with slightly ribbed shoulders and a tapered tip. They often exceed 300 g, and the largest specimens can reach 700–800 g.
The flesh is meaty, firm, and juicy, with few seeds. The full tomato flavor combines sweetness with acidity. It’s a good choice for thick passata, sauce, and puree, but it’s worth saving at least one fruit for fresh slices.
For comparison, we recommend the “Cuore di Bue Heirloom”: in our collection, it has a similar heart-shaped form and fleshy interior, but a pink color and smaller fruits.
