Peacevine is a red cherry tomato that’s worth planting near the spot where you take your daily walks in the garden. The round, juicy fruits tempt you to pick them straight from the vine, and their sweetness is balanced by a slightly tart note. They’re great in salads, lunchboxes, and as a fresh side dish for a summer dinner.
Behind this variety is Alan Kapuler, an American plant breeder and advocate for plant diversity. Its history is tied to work on plant material known as “Sweet 100” and to making varieties with stable traits available to gardeners. It’s a good example of a tomato whose value lies both in its fruit and in the idea of sharing seeds.
The plants are tall, require support, and need regular harvesting of ripening fruit. You can add “Black Cherry” or the golden-red “Isis Candy” to your colorful cocktail tomato collection.
