It’s impossible to pass by this variety without noticing it. The fruit’s elongated shape is unlike that of any other tomato. Add to that a gorgeous, multicolored skin covered with distinct red-and-yellow streaks. It’s a tall-growing plant that requires staking or tying up. The fruit reaches maturity about 65 days after transplanting.
Blush is the result of a family breeding project by Fred Hempel and his son Alex in California. Eight-year-old Alex chose his favorite-tasting tomatoes—Maglia Rosa and Zucchero—to crossbreed. This cross produced a variety with distinctive, elongated fruits with a blush.
