Sheyenne originates from a breeding program at an experimental station in North Dakota. North Dakota State University lists its introduction as 1960. It is a vigorous, determinate plant with a compact growth habit; staking helps support the heavy fruit. The fruits have a delicate skin and are shaped like slightly flattened spheres, weighing between 240 and 360 grams. The skin is delicate and easily damaged. The flesh is velvety, distinctly sweet with a slight hint of tartness. The fruit reaches maturity approximately 75 days after being transplanted in the ground.
