Maglia Rosa is Fred Hempel’s tomato from California, derived from a cross between “Black Cherry” and “Speckled Roman.” It produces beautiful, elongated fruits with a pink background and lighter streaks. In our garden, they grow to about 5–7 cm in length, and their sweet flavor is balanced by a slight tartness.
This small, bushy plant with limited growth is well-suited for a pot on the balcony. It’s a prolific variety, and you can have the ripening tomatoes right at your fingertips. It’s worth trying them when they’re still light pink, as they retain a pleasant firmness.
This is a delightful variety for everyday snacking and colorful salads. Place the pot in a sunny spot and make sure to water it evenly.
