A very old German variety; the first references to it date back to around the mid-19th century. The fruits are sweet and small—weighing no more than 30 grams—and grow in enormous clusters. The name means “large cluster.” It is prized by gardeners who enjoy grape tomatoes for its very aromatic, sweet fruit. “Riesentraube” is characterized by its incredibly high yield. It is a mid-late variety; the fruits reach maturity after about 78 days. The plant is tall and requires staking or tying up.

Southern Exposure Seed Exchange introduced it to the U.S. seed market in 1994. The distinctive small tip at the end of the fruit makes it easy to distinguish among round cherry tomatoes.
